68th European Dental Students' Association Meeting

22nd - 28th August 2021

European Dental Students’ Association is an international organization which represents over 70 000 dental students in Europe. European dentistry students do see the need of coming together to discuss differences and similarities regarding the quality of the education.

The main goals of the EDSA are to inform students about the E.U. organisations and politics in relation to dental medicine, to defend the interests of dental students, foster collaboration on student-led projects, to develop and promote international networking and students exchanges, to connect different educational systems, to animate a globally active student community and encourage national dental students associations to cooperate on an international level.

Slovak Association of Dental Students

Slovak Association of Dental Students is the umbrella organisation of all dental students in Slovakia, established in 2009. It represents students of 4 faculties, which are located in Bratislava, Košice and Martin. The aim of the association is to represent the common interests of dental students and to enable contacts with students from other European countries. Our activities focus on 4 main areas:

  • As for the Social activities, we organize Freshers party, Mid-semester party, Halloween party, Christmas party, different hike trips and many more. Our main goal is to create friendly enviroment for students to meet new people and form friendships.

  • Regarding our educational activities, we organise various lectures and workshops throughout the year. Our goal in the field of education is to bring quality and affordable extracurricular education for students. As the field of dentistry is one of the most dynamic medical disciplines due to rapidly evolving technologies, it is necessary to obtain and practice this information outside the practical exercises at the universities and to follow European and world standards. Our most successful event is the Student Congress of Slovak Association of Dental Students, which is held annually in Martin. Normally, the Student Congress is visited by more than 150 students every year. Participants get 2 full days packed with lectures and workshops and the Congress typically ends with a fabulous Gala Night.

  • We are also very fond of our events with regard to Prevention. We arrange smaller lectures for kids in hospitals and St. Nicolaus day on the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Our biggest preventive event is “Together for healthy and beautiful smile”, a roadshow organized in 20 cities. Dental students travel all around Slovakia to educate people about proper teeth-brushing habits, the importance of interdental brushes and the role of nutrition in process of tooth decay formation. We find this activity very important because we can improve the level of education among population in Slovakia.

  • Within the organisational structure, in addition to internal affairs, we also give sufficient space to relations with other countries. In addition to regular exchange internships for our students abroad and external students in Slovakia, due to our significant and active membership, we regularly participate in European meetings organised by European Dental Students Association (EDSA) as well as international congresses under the International Dental Students Association (IADS)

Košice is the largest city in eastern Slovakia and with a population of approximately 240,000, Košice is the second largest city in Slovakia, after the capital Bratislava. Being the cultural centre of eastern Slovakia, Košice is the seat of three universities, many museums, galleries, and theatres.

In 2013 Košice was the European Capital of Culture, together with Marseille, France. The city has a preserved historical centre which is the largest among Slovak towns. There are heritage protected buildings, Slovakia's largest church: the St. Elisabeth Cathedral. The long main street, rimmed with aristocratic palaces, Catholic churches, and townsfolk's houses, is a thriving pedestrian zone with boutiques, cafés, and restaurants.

Košice is also home to the oldest marathon in Europe, it boasts the largest heritage reservation in Slovakia, but most importantly, it is a city where life is lived and enjoyed.

The fact that the EDSA Meeting has not been held on-site for almost 2 years (from August 2019!), we expect that majority of EDSA Košice attendees have never been to EDSA Meeting before!

For this reason, we share with you the provisional schedule of the meeting, so you can better understand how it looks like at EDSA Meetings and what sessions (and parties) you can expect. Once we are closer to the date, we will share more information regarding the program.
